At Mullinix, sustainability is about thinking in the long term; doing what is right in the here and now, so that the future, both for Mullinix and everyone, will be secure. Sustainability helps make our internal initiatives such as scrap reduction and productivity improvements part of the big picture − it gives our goals a greater purpose beyond just revenue and profit.
In business terms, what is good for the environment and society is just good business, plain and simple.

Although these goals make good business sense, they also need to have sustainability in mind. Mullinix is driven to reduce the waste in our systems. Waste can be as obvious as scrap material or less obvious, like inefficient transportation systems. Along with waste, we are aggressively pursuing reducing the energy we use in processing our material.
We are expanding our recycling efforts to include processes that can utilize post consumer regrind (PCR) and externally purchased industrial regrind. We are also placing a greater emphasis on reusing packaging materials.
There is a great opportunity in the near future for the utilization of biobased materials. One of our goals is to grow this market segment every chance we get. While pursuing this objective, we must continue our efforts to remove unnecessary cost within our organization – saving that we can pass along to our business partners.
We have systems in place, such as our Six Sigma program, that are moving us towards these goals; however, for these goals for sustainability, failure is not an option.
